About Turi-Obumu Group

Obumwe Microfinance Limited discovered that there is the need for saving culture amongst members started in 2019 when the group of individuals/people realized the purpose of saving and decided to mobilize and sensitize people about the advantages of saving hence the formation of the Turi-Obumu Group 
Turi-Obumu Vision is: To build resilient communities through inclusive, trust-based financial empowerment. 
The above Vision can be achieved through, Promoting savings discipline, mutual support, and access to fair and responsive financial services for Uganda’s underserved populations. 
We look at the following: 
1. Trust- We rely on the integrity of our members and group structures. 
2. Equity-Everyone deserves fair access regardless of background or formal income. 
3. Transparency- Clear processes and communication at every level. 
4. Innovation- Continually improving how we serve our members. 
5. Community-Strength through unity and shared goals.

Motivated
By Informal sector and low-income earners, need for saving amongst clients and a sense of purpose has enabled them to achieve social-economic gains for their members through unity and togetherness Turi Obumu, meaning “We Are One” in one of local languages’, is a community-led savings and empowerment initiative under Obumwe Microfinance Limited. It was founded to address the lack of financial access for informal workers and low-income earners in Uganda. The initiative brings together self-organized saving groups/Individuals whose members voluntarily commit to saving regularly and supporting each other through a shared vision of economic resilience. Each group/Individual is guided by field officers and community leaders trained in group dynamics, financial literacy, and digital recordkeeping. 
Turi Obumu is more than a savings club. It is a platform for accessing different initiatives; SCORE2GROW, BODA SHIELD, EDU-SAVE, AGRICSHIELD, MARKET FLOW AND OTHERS as well as 
- Building individual and collective resilience 
- Accessing unsecured credit through savings score eligibility 
- Benefiting from informal, trust-based insurance solutions 
- Fostering inclusive, locally driven financial empowerment

Objectives
• To save money among members as means of enhancing the integral development
• To use one's credit savings, score as a key factor as how much facilities unsecured facilities a member can get from Obumwe microfinance limited
• To empower the social economic status of Turi-Obumu group members through working together, cooperating and sharing economic and developmental knowledge as well as saved incomes
• To provide a forum for exchange of professional knowledge, experience, financial literacy and management 
•To Build individual, collective resilience and promote insurance as well as financial inclusion for low-income earners and entire informal sector
Eligibility of Members
• Ugandan by Nationality and Refugees with valid card
• Private Guards/Askaris, Boda-Boda/Motorcycle riders, Market vendors,Refugees and other vulnerable groups.
• Good character and high integrity
• Have paid membership fees of 4000 Uganda shillings
• National Identity Card/LC1 letter/Valid refugee card
• Filled form
Current Status
• Turi-Obumu Group has over 1000 active members registered and certified members
2024 Highlights and Achievements
The year 2024 was marked by notable progress across all program areas: 
Successfully expanded to two new districts, increasing geographic coverage. 
Crossed 1005 active members savers milestone, representing a 35% year-on-year growth. 
175 insurance-linked claims processed with a 92% approval rate (52boda boda,39 Children school,31Claims on Agriculture,5 people were given last expense,7Saloon business were give capital due to covid19,41 business and for market flow) 
Launched automated mobile alert system for claims and savings tracking. 
Held 10 monthly evaluation meetings and the 4th Annual General Meeting These achievements highlight the resilience of our community model, as well as the commitment of our leadership and staff in implementing inclusive financial solutions.
